Today Haj Committee of India conducted the draw of lots (Qurrah) for selection of Haj applicants for Haj 2016. This year 32298 people from J&K applied for Haj but the total quota allocated to the state was 6359 (including 1500 seats of special quota).
Out of total 32298 of applications 2,905 come under reserved category A (70-year plus applicants along with a defined companion) and 4,009 under Reserved category B (4th time consecutive applicants) and 25,384 under General Category.
The total no. of applications in reserved categories sums up to 6914 which is 555 more than the total quota allocated (6359).
All applicants who come under Reserved category A are selected by the Haj Committee and they are eligible to perform Haj this year. However draw of lots was held for the applicants who come under Reserved Category B out of which 555 applicants have been put in a waiting List. Those applicants who come under Reserved category B can check the status of their selection from the official website of Haj Committee of India.
None of the applicants from the general category will be selected this year. However, according to a post by Kashmir Life, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Hassan Samoon has said that the state has sought increase in the allocation of Hajj Quota from the Union Government to accommodate all reserved category applicants and some from the general category.
